Support Groups for Caregivers Who Are Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

Unfortunately, sexual abuse can be a generational issue which means that some of the caregivers you are supporting may be survivors themselves. It is valuable to ascertain if participants in your caregiver programs are survivors so that you can provide referrals to additional resources as necessary

I encourage adult survivors to participate in individual therapy as well as consider joining a support group specifically for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Here are some organizations that provide a network of support groups and other resources for adult survivors:

How to Structure a New Caregiver Orientation

New caregiver orientations are important for three reasons:

1. They help new caregivers feel safe
2. They minimize disruption of the group and
3. They help leaders understand the new caregiver's story, potential needs, and possible challenges
