Volunteer Opportunities
The victims in 70% of all reported sexual assaults in America are children.
Whether you've been impacted by child sexual abuse personally, you know someone who has been impacted or you're simply heartbroken by the thought of children being abused and you want to help, we have an opportunity for you.
There's no level of commitment that's too small - YOU can make a difference!
Below is a list of opportunity categories and there are specific projects within each category that vary in skills required and time commitment. So take a look and see what grabs your interest. What is most important in volunteering is that you offer your time to do something that is personally fulfilling. So if you don't see something on the list that feels right, please fill out the form anyway, check the "Other" box and let us know how you'd like to help.
We have volunteer opportunities that fall into the following categories:
Spreading the Word - We need people who are willing to use their resources to spread the word about this epidemic, TAALK's programs and how to protect kids. You can use email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, host an awareness presentation or open forum or simply talk to your friends and family.
Administration - We need people to take on small projects that include things like building databases in Excel (using the internet for research), doing mailings (mail merge, print, stuff and mail letters), filing, bookkeeping, and Constant Contact database updates and mailings.
Fund Raising - We need people who can help us raise money. This includes the obvious roles such as grant writers and grant researchers but there are many ways the community at large can help us raise money. You can make a personal donation in any amount or maybe you know someone who has wealth and supports a variety of non-profits. If so, you could tell them about TAALK and suggest they consider supporting us. If you have a network of financially successful friends or colleagues you could host an awareness event at your home so they can learn about our work and see if they are moved to support us. If you'd like to help but your finances are limited, we can provide a list of "50 Ways to Raise $500" which will give you some creative ideas on ways to raise money. We also have some fund raising affiliate programs that we would like to get in place such as car donations, Good Search, and a travel site and need someone to take the lead on getting these programs in place.
Technolgy Support - We need people who can help with a variety of technology needs from installing hardware, software and networks to helping us ensure sound strategies and procedures for anti-virus protection, file back up and data security. We use a hosted solution for our website which allows us to handle most of the changes ourselves but we need a webmaster to help on an as needed basis when we have needs that the application does not support.
Social Media - We need people who are experts in all areas of social media. We have launched our Facebook presence and would like to move into YouTube and Internet Radio this coming year. We need a video team, radio expertise and administrators for Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
Marketing - We need marketing experts who can help us design new collateral as needed, build our internet store, and help us build a strategy for distribution of our materials.
Public Relations/Media - We need people who have experience in public relations to help us get to the next level of exposure including print, radio, and television.
Advisory Council - We need a panel of people who are willing to review our daily prevention tips for spelling, grammar and political correctness and document research sources. We can use experts in english/grammer as well as licensed therapists and experts in the field of child sexual abuse. We are also open to experts and community members submitting suggestions for new tips to be added.
Board Members - We are looking to expand our board to include members from each major segment of the community such as Pediatricians, Therapists, Medical Doctors, Attorneys, Financial Advisors/Estate Planners, Politicians, Socialites, Actors, Artists, Musicians, and Sports celebrities as well as each area of business expertise including Public Relations, Media, Fund Raising, Marketing, Technology, Finance, Non-Profit Management and Recruiting. Our vision is to create a board that can both guide us as we grow the business as well as connect us to potential donors and recipients of our programs. If you think of anyone who has a passion for children who fits in one of these categories and might be interested, please let them know about the opportunity.
Facility Providers - We are looking for locations throughout Orange County where we can deliver our programs at no cost. We have a need for small intimate conference/therapy rooms for support groups as well as larger presentation/training rooms that fit up to 50 people. We need rooms for day, evening and weekend use so any of these options would be valuable.
Program Speakers - We need people who enjoy public speaking and want to be involved in delivering our programs including awareness presentations, adult prevention education programs, puppet shows for children, teen empowerment presentations (must be a survivor), survivor panel and open forum participants (must have been impacted by child sexual abuse i.e. survivor, non-offending parent, sibling, partner, etc.) and support group leaders. We are particularly interested in continuing to expand our program in Spanish and potentially other languages so bilingual speakers are welcome.
Survivors and their Families - We are looking for people who have been impacted directly or indirectly by child sexual abuse who are willing to tell their story of survival and healing. We are resolving this epidemic through our words. By breaking the silence and telling our stories, we help others to understand the impact and learn how to better protect kids. Child sexual abuse is a crime that is built on silence and each time we share our story, we forever change the consciousness of the people who listen, which in turn changes their choices about how they protect kids. We encourage survivors and their families to tell their story. Whether you chose to simply share your story with a trusted friend or loved one or you chose to get involved with TAALK and tell your story as part of one of our programs, you will make a difference in the lives of kids. Many of our programs rely on survivors and their families (especially non-offending parents and partners) including our support groups, survivor panels, open forums, teen empowerment presentations and on-line forums. We especially need male survivors who are willing to publicly break the silence and be a role model for other male survivors so we can lead and support them on their healing journey.
Other - We're a small business with a big vision and as you can imagine, we can probably use help in ways we haven't even thought of yet. Please don't let the above list limit your vision of how you can help. Just think about your interests, skills, connections and passion and let us know how you would like to help.
Complete the contact information and check the box for one or more volunteer categories that you're interested in exploring further. Upon receipt of your application, we'll contact you to discuss the opportunities further and arrange for the appropriate level of orientation, training and support needed for you to be successful. Thanks in advance for making a commitment to help protect kids from becoming victims of sexual abuse.
