The victims in 70% of all reported sexual assaults in America are children.
Whether you've been impacted by child sexual abuse personally, you know someone who has been impacted or you're simply heartbroken by the thought of children being abused and you want to help, we have an opportunity for you.
There's no level of commitment that's too small - YOU can make a difference!
Below is a list of opportunity categories and there are specific projects within each category that vary in skills required and time commitment. So take a look and see what grabs your interest. What is most important in volunteering is that you offer your time to do something that is personally fulfilling. So if you don't see something on the list that feels right, please fill out the form anyway, check the "Other" box and let us know how you'd like to help.
Corporate Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking to build a core team of volunteers here in Orange County, California that are focused on helping us build the infrastructure to support our global efforts. So the Corporate Volunteer Opportunities are all designed to be filled by local volunteers. Please see the TAALK Chapter Volunteer Opportunities below if you are located outside of Orange County. There are also TAALK Chapter Volunteer Opportunities available to people who live in Orange County and are interested in supporting our local awareness, education and support programs rather than our corporate efforts.
Become a Guest - If you are a direct or indirect survivor or expert in the area of child sexual abuse and you are interested in becoming a guest on the TAALK-a-ThonTM or The TAALK ShowTM, submit your application here.
Corporate Administration - We need general administrative support for the corporate office including phones, filing, bookkeeping, database updates, newsletters, website updates, etc. Much of this work can be done from the comfort of your own home.
Fund Raising - We need people who can help us raise money from a corporate perspective including introduction to potential individual donors and/or private foundations, grant research, grant writers, advertising sales to corporate sponsors, Facebook Cause promotion and administration, establishing and marketing affiliate programs such as a car donation program creating our TAALK Store.
Event Planner - We need a corporate event planner to assist in identifying, screening, and coordinating speakers for our two signature programs the TAALK-a-Thon and The TAALK Show.
Technology Support - We need people who can help with a variety of technology needs from researching and configuring core corporate systems such as contact, volunteer and donor management systems and helping us ensure sound strategies and procedures for anti-virus protection, file back up and data security.
Web Master/Developer - We are undertaking a website redesign this year to better support our growing global vision and need someone who can help us research and assess our future needs and determine if a hosting platform change is required. Then we need someone with design and development skills to help us with the redesign including an underlying database application for capturing and displaying child sexual abuse resources and events worldwide. As part of that process, we need someone who specializes in Search Engine Optimization to help us improve our rankings.
Graphic Designer - We need graphic designers who can help create new collateral as needed, design items for our internet store, build graphics needed for our website, etc.
Marketing - We need marketing professionals who can work with our executive team and program staff to help market TAALK's local and global programs to constituents worldwide.
Social Media - We need people who are experts in all areas of social media. We have launched our Facebook presence, Twitter, Blog and YouTube channel as well as a Blog Talk Radio station. We need administrators for each of these media channels who will post daily, monitor comments and work to build awareness and support through these channels. We also need someone who will be responsible for aggregating statistics from all of these channels into a monthly report.
Advisory Council - We need professionals to serve on a variety of advisory council's for community forums including the mental health community, the faith community, educators, pediatricians, OB/GYNs, etc. Advisory Council members will meet quarterly by phone to engage in strategic discussions about how to effectively engage their specific profession in the resolution and support of the child sexual abuse epidemic.
TAALK Chapter Volunteer Opportunities
As we build TAALK Chapters, these are the "positions" that will need to be filled to create a full service impactful child sexual abuse prevention and support initiative but it doesn't mean that we need people in all of these positions to get started. One or two people can get started by focusing on a small subset of these efforts and in the process, you'll inspire others to join you. We'll help you get the ball rolling and guide you along the way.
Community Database Management - We need people who are willing to research and pull together databases of contacts within their community such as all of the pediatricians, OB/GYNs, schools, faith organizations, etc. which will serve as the foundation for the outreach efforts of their local TAALK Chapter.
Outreach Coordinators - We need people who are willing to make calls, send emails, letters, etc. to the database of community contacts letting them know about our awareness, education and support programs. The objectives of the outreach effort is to schedule presentations and trainings as well as establish a referral program for our support groups.
Fund Raising - We need people who can help raise money to support the costs of the local Chapter. This can be through personal donations or mini fundraising activities - review this list of "50 Ways to Raise $500" which will give you some creative ideas on ways to raise money.
Facility Providers - We are looking for locations where we can deliver our programs at no cost. We have a need for small intimate conference/therapy rooms for support groups as well as larger presentation/training rooms that fit up to 50 people. We need rooms for day, evening and weekend use so any of these options would be valuable. We need the training rooms to include an LCD projector for a laptop and either a screen or appropriate clear wall for projection.
Program Speakers - We need people who enjoy public speaking and want to be involved in delivering our programs including awareness presentations, adult prevention education programs, puppet shows for children, teen empowerment presentations, survivor panels and community forums. We have many of our materials translated into Spanish and would like to continue to build our Latino outreach program. So bilingual speakers are welcome. Other language speakers are welcome if they are also willing to do the translations for us.
Survivors and their Families - We want to be your platform for turning lemons into lemonade! We are looking for people who have been impacted directly or indirectly by child sexual abuse who are willing to tell their story of survival and healing. We are resolving this epidemic through our words and you are uniquely qualified to help others understand the impact and learn how to better protect kids. Child sexual abuse is a crime that is built on silence and each time we share our story, we forever change the consciousness of the people who listen, which in turn changes their choices about how they protect kids. Many of our programs rely on or are greatly enhanced by survivors and their families including our support groups, survivor panels and teen empowerment presentations. We especially need male survivors who are willing to publicly break the silence and be a role model for other male survivors so we can lead and support them on their healing journey.
Support Group Leaders - We would like to encourage all TAALK Chapters to start peer-to-peer support groups. This is a big commitment because survivors will be counting on you to create a safe place for them to share and consistency is crucial. This is absolutely a long term commitment and it's essential that support group leaders have invested considerable time and effort in their own healing process.
Other - We're a small business with a big vision and as you can imagine, we can probably use help in ways we haven't even thought of yet. Please don't let the above list limit your vision of how you can help. Just think about your interests, skills, connections and passion and let us know how you would like to help.
Complete the contact information and check the box for one or more volunteer categories that you're interested in exploring further. Upon receipt of your application and completion of our volunteer screening process, we'll contact you to discuss the opportunities further and arrange for the appropriate level of orientation, training and support needed for you to be successful. Thanks in advance for making a commitment to help protect kids from becoming victims of sexual abuse.
