10 Ways to Raise $250

  1. Give a $250 donation yourself or ask friends and family to split the donation with you (5 give $50, 10 give $25, etc.)
  2. Challenge friends to join you in skipping something that you regularly spend money on for one month - gourmet coffee, eating out, alcohol, getting your nails done, etc. and donate the money saved.
  3. Set up a matching campaign. Tell people you'll give $5 for every $25 they give, or will match every $10 gift up to 12 gifts, etc.
  4. Get three friends to help you host a progressive dinner. Start at one person's home for cocktails and appetizers, progress to the next person's house for soup or salad, the next person's for the main course, and the last person’s house for dessert. Charge $25 per person and get 10 or 12 people to come. What a great way to have fun with friends while helping others!
  5. If it’s legal in your community and you like to gamble, host a Poker Night. Charge a $5 entrance fee and ask that half of every "pot" is donated. You can even sell refreshments such a nachos or dessert to raise even more money. This also works well if you have a group of women who play games such as Bunco where there’s an entrance fee that goes to the top winners at the end of the night – ask them to donate the fees this month instead.
  6. Solicit small businesses and faith organizations. Although most of them have formal grant processes for larger donations, many of them have discretionary funds for small projects and you may be able to get donations of $50-$250 dollars per organization just by submitting a short letter of explanation or talking with them in person.
  7. Ask 2-5 friends to help with a bake sale, book sale, or garage sale. You and your friends bake the goodies, or get the books or the other stuff required for the sale, staff it, and help clean up afterwards. This is an excellent way to get people involved in fundraising without ever actually asking them for money.
  8. Invite people to your birthday party and ask that in lieu of gifts they make a donation – they can either bring you cash/check and you can donate the money or direct them to TAALK’s Cause Page. If you want to reach even more friends, create a Birthday Wish on Facebook and ask all your friends and family to donate, regardless of where they live.
  9. Ask friends who belong to service clubs, sororities, support groups, bible study groups, etc. to discuss TAALK in their group and pass the hat for donations.
  10. If you have a collection of any kind, consider selling it and donating the proceeds. Even childhood collections such as dolls, rocks, or toy cars can be valuable.
